That pretty much sums up my take on the Men's Final of the 2012 Australian Open. I missed it. I had the TV on but couldn't concentrate on the match due to "real life". Finally, I just turned the TV off at the beginning of the 4th set. One of the best Men's Finals in all of Grand Slam Tennis...and I missed it.
The positive side was that when I woke up I got to scroll through varying twitters of excitement to agony. I had woken up to see that Rafa had lost 5-7 in the 5th and then dozed off again. So I knew how the match was going to end but I still felt the butterflies in my stomach as i scrolled through the twitters. I'm more than pleased that the match went 5 sets. I would expect nothing less from these two.
I hope that one day I can see this match in its entirety (have to set aside 5+ hours) so that I can see what I know all Nadal and Djokovic fans experienced together.
The most memorable of this Australian Open, for me, was Lleyton Hewitt's three matches. His fight, passion, and heart is all still there. I don't think I'll ever forget the ruling against Nalbandian.
The run that Kim Clijsters had to the SF in what might be her last Australian Open was also memorable. It was sad that she didn't get to the Final but more saddened to see the hit that her ranking took down to the 30s (Ranking update entry to come tomorrow).
So that officially closes the book on this AO. And now its on to the weekly grind til we say hello to Roland Garros (my personal favorite Slam).
Lastly, thank you Australian Open for including me amongst a great group of bloggers and allowing me to be one of the AOFANbassadors. Hope to see you in 2013!
